Ingredients

Method

1.Preheat oven to 220°C. Place flour and butter in a food processor and pulse until butter forms fine crumbs. Add thyme and grated cheese. Pulse briefly to mix, then add the liquid and use short pulses to mix to a soft dough.
2.Sprinkle flour onto the bench and roll the dough in the flour so it is less sticky. Divide dough into 6 equal pieces then cut each piece into thirds.
3.Pat some flour onto your hands to stop the dough sticking. Take 3 pieces of dough and roll each into a skinny sausage about the length of a pencil. Pinch the 3 ends together then plait the strands. Tuck ends under and place on a greased baking tray. Repeat for the other 5 plaits.
4.Brush the dough with a little milk and then sprinkle with poppy seeds or sesame seeds.
5.Bake the bread plaits for 15 minutes then lower the temperature to 180°C and bake for another 10 minutes. The bread should be golden and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
