1.In a small bowl, combine spices; rub spice mixture onto ribs. Cover; refrigerate 3 hours or overnight.
2.Preheat oven to 180°C/160°C fan-forced.
3.In a medium saucepan, bring beer to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, 20 minutes. Divide beer and ribs between two large baking dishes; cook, covered, 1½ hours. Remove from oven; discard beer.
4.In a small saucepan, combine sauce, the water, syrup and vinegar; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, 5 minutes.
5.Cook ribs, in batches, on heated oiled grill plate (or grill or barbecue), brushing with sauce mixture, until browned all over.
